We offer DNA fingerprinting service for plants like Cotton, Sunflower, Rice, Wheat
and Sorghum. DNA fingerprinting is a very useful tool for implementing intellectual
property rights, testing for specific genes, hybrid verification, and for getting
approval for varieties from government bodies. Our lab uses RAPD (Randomly amplified
polymorphic DNA) and Microsatellites technology for fingerprinting. |

Zygosity testing for Bt genes (PCR)
|
|
Details |
It is highly desirable to identify homozygosity for the Bt gene during 2-3 backcross
stage to increase the integration of Bt gene into their hybrid. Routine Elisa test
can only confirm the presence or absence of the gene product but cannot confirm
homozygosity or heterozygosity of the gene. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing
can detect the presence of DNA sequences and can also confirm homozygosity, heterozygosity
and null condition for Bt gene accurately.

Hybrid purity testing (PCR)
|
|
Details |
Hybrid purity is tested is performed by GeneTech on plant genome using SSR (Single
sequence repeats) or Microsatellites as DNA markers. |

ELISA testing for BT Cotton (Qualitative) |
|
Details |
Confirmatory presence of Cry1Ac BT-protein is done by biochemical technique ELISA
(Enzyme linked Immunosorbant Assay). We provide qualitative results for the number
of seedlings out of 90 testing positive for the trait. Positive and negative trait
plant control samples are used on every microplate. |

Test |
ELISA testing for BT Cotton (Quantitative) |
|
Details |
Levels of BT gene can be determined in seedlings instead of timely field growouts
and ratings. This results in a savings of time and money. Thirty seeds are required,
grown to a four-leaf stage, harvested and then tested. |
