latest molecular tools for their business. Our fully automated instrumentation offers
rapid turnaround time and accurate results. Our experienced staff includes highly
skilled molecular biologists, geneticists, biochemists, and statisticians. We take
up projects from simple testing and delivering results to offering turn key solutions
to your research projects.
Medical and Drug Research
Gene Expression studies using Real time quantitative PCR technology: Gene
expression is studies using syber green, Taqman or MolecularBeacon probes in understanding
specific gene expression with disease progression, cancer minimal residual disease,
drug response, invivo carcinogen treated gene studies in mice and lab animals, in
vitro pre-clinical trials etc.
Genetic toxicology in response to drug/ chemical / radiation: Genetic
toxicology studies to study the effect of DNA damage and repair capabilities by
using Ames, Sister chromatid exchanges, DNA/chromosome breakage studies, Single
cell gel electrophoresis etc.
Genetics of polygenic and multifactorial diseases: Population specific
genetic research is important to detect genetic variation and polymorphism for common
health conditions like cardiovascular diseases, Diabetes, Asthama and physiatric
disorders. Various PCR based technologies (ARMS, nested PCR, long PCR), mutation
detection methods (mini sequencing method, DGGE, TGGE) are used for such research.
Protein expression studies: Qualitative and quantitative measurement
of proteins in different tissues is studied by using biochemical technologies like
ELISA, Chemiluminescence and Time resolved Flourimetry.
Basic research, epidemiological and community studies on genetic disorders: In
collaboration with hospitals, government and voluntary bodies GeneTech conducts
basic research and population surveys for various common and unique genetic disorders
in Indian population.
Plant and Veterinary Research
DNA fingerprinting: Genetic profiles are developed for plant hybrids
and animal species by the application of different molecular fingerprinting tools
like STR (Single tandem repeats or Microsatellites and RAPD (Randomly amplified
polymorphic DNA). DNA fingerprinting is a very useful tool for implementing intellectual
property rights, testing for specific genes, hybrid verification, and for getting
approval for varieties from government bodies. We presently work with cotton, sunflower,
and safflower hybrids in our laboratory.
Genetic up gradation of crops through biotechnology and genetic engineering tools: Integration
of biotechnology marker selection techniques with conventional and traditional breeding
approaches offers great promise for plant breeding. Marker assisted plant breeding
management is done to identify and develop markers for traits of economic values
such as resistance to pathogens, insects and nematodes, tolerance to antibiotic
stress etc; to improve quality and productivity; to provide patent protection of
the technology developed and to screen for susceptibility/resistance to various
agricultural pathogens. Different molecular markers like RAPD, DAF, SSR, AFLP, AP-PCR,
Microsatellites are used.
Molecular detection of Plant and Animal viruses: Plant, Fish and other
animal pathogen/viral gene expression is studied in response to treatment, environment
and genetic factors. Gene expression studies are undertaken to understand which
genes are active in particular tissues at particular times and access the relative
degrees of activity of the genes. We use relatively new and highly sensitive Real
time Quantitative PCR is for Gene expression studies.
Protein expression studies: Protein expression of genetically modified
crops, food is studied and protocols are develop for detection and quantification
of the pure or unidentified protein form in plants and animals. Biochemical technologies
like ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbant Assay) and Time Resolved Flourimetry and
Iso-Electric focusing are used in the research studies.
Development of molecular testing alternatives for GOT (grow out test):
Molecular marker based testing/fingerprinting will provide a quicker and sensitive
alternative to much expensive and time consuming grow out test. Our lab is engaged
in identifying the tools for the application in collaboration with international
laboratories.
