To understand the basis, relevance and limitations of the fast expanding range of genetic technologies, a focused study under guidance towards certification is necessary. GeneTech's professional education division has designed several certificate and diploma courses which cater to graduate and post graduate medical students to help them in their pursuit of specializations or careers in research. FastTrack courses are designed for practitioners to help them apply genetic findings to their medical practice.

Certificate course in Genetic Counseling (2 months, 20 lectures)

Elements of medical genetics, philosophy and basics of genetic counseling, update on genetic diagnostic techniques, counseling families with cytogenetic rearrangements, genetic counseling for mendelian disorders, multi-factorial and polygenic non-mendelian disorders, counseling families with enzymatic defects, dysmorphology studies and syndrome detection, use of genetic databases, prenatal screening and diagnosis, cancer genetic consultation, community genetics , genetics for different medical specialities. Live counseling sessions. Laboratory orientation.

Certificate course in Medical Genetic Testing (2 months, 20 lectures)

Genes and genetic information, cytogenetic testing, DNA mutations and polymorphisms, PCR technology, newborn genetics and metabolic screening, DNA sequencing, Human Genome Project and bio-informatics, prenatal diagonsis and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, presymptomatic and cancer predisposition testing. Laboratory orientation, project on one technology platform.

Certificate course in Genetics in Gynaecology and Obstetrics (1 month, 10 lectures - FastTrack ONE WEEK)

Female development and role of genes, conception and gametogenic errors, pregnancy losses and cytogenetic defects, amenorrhea, male infertility, pre-implantation genetics, prenatal screening methodologies and risk calculation, invasive procedures, laboratory procedures overview, chromosome identification and ISCN karyotype designation, interpreting DNA test results, principles of genetic counseling in gynaecology and obstetrics, case presentations and live counseling sessions.

Certificate course in Pediatric Genetics (1 month, 10 lectures - FastTrack ONE WEEK)

Genes and human development, dysmorphology syndromes and their genetic basis, management of genetic mental retardation, inheritance patterns, use of genetic databases with demonstration, inborn errors of metabolism and neonatal screening, chromosome identification and ISCN karyotype designation, interpreting DNA test results, laboratory procedures overview, principles of genetic counseling in pediatric practice, case presentations and live counseling sessions.

Certificate course in Prenatal Diagnostic Procedures (1 week, 6 lectures, 3 demonstrations)

Genes and fetal development, prevention of birth defects by prenatal diagnosis, chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, cordocentesis, fetal skin sampling, laboratory procedures, ultrasound markers and prenatal diagnosis, genetic counseling, pre-conception and prenatal diagnostic techniques - Regulation and Prevention of Misuse Act, live demonstrations of procedures.

Certificate course in Genetics in Oncology (1 month, 10 lectures)

Clinical significance of genetic testing, basics of acquired genetic changes, genetic markers in classification, genetics of haematological cancers, heriditary cancers, role of genetic markers in treatment and minimal residual disease monitoring, gene expression studies, identification of cancer predisposition using breast cancer and colon cancer as examples, use and practice of genetic databases and case presentations

DIPLOMA IN MEDICAL GENETICS (6 months, 50 lectures)

Compulsory courses: Genetic Counseling (20 lectures), Medical Genetic Testing (20 lectures). One Optional course of 10 lectures from the above. One project of one month duration.
